27th Annual Civil War Battles & Encampment
May 24, 25 & 26 (Memorial Day Weekend)

Visit encampments of Union and Confederate solders and witness historic battles at one of the longest-running Civil War reenactments in the West. Be advised that occasional loud cannon and gunfire may be heard as part of the re-enactment activities during the day. It is not advisable to bring dogs to this event.

Admission to the Civil War event is $5 per person and parking is $7 per car. Guests who purchase train tickets receive $2 off admission.

Celebrating 45 years through the Redwoods, Roaring Camp is launching an new 90 minute guided eco-hike from Bear Mountain back to Roaring Camp. For Memorial Day those guests that add on the eco-hike, you will get off the train at the top of Bear Mountain, have the opportunity to walk through the Bear Mountain encampment and meet the soldiers, then take a leisurely downhill hike through the forest back to Roaring Camp where you'll learn about the redwoods, the forest and the history of the area. Did you know Roaring Camp was underwater 30 million years ago? The first land owner for our area was Isaac Graham the cousin of Daniel Boone? This hike is normally $12 per person but it's specially priced at $5 for the three days of Memorial Day Weekend.

Hats Off to Dad
Sunday, June 15 (Father's Day)

Treat dad to a steam train ride and Chuckwagon BBQ. Each lucky dad so honored receives an engineer's cap and free handcar ride. One lucky dad is selected per train to ride down the mountain in the locomotive cab. Model trains on display.


Great Train Robberies
June 28-29, August 30-31 (Labor Day Weekend)

Witness shootouts of famed lawmen and notorious outlaws from the 1880s at Bear Mountain. Blazing reenactments demonstrate why the West was wild.


Starlight Evenings
June 28, July 5 & 12; August 9 & 23

Wonder at the beauty of a redwood forest lit up at night during a 2-hour, round-trip railway excursion from the boardwalk in Santa Cruz. For tickets contact Roaring Camp at 1-831-335-4484.


4th of July Celebration
July 4, 5 & 6

Pack up the family and head to Roaring Camp for a day of family fun. Sack races, balloon toss, hula hoop contests, music and more.


Moonlight Dinner Train
July 19, August 16, September 13, October 11

Moonlight dinner, dancing, and train ride through a redwood forest lit by flashlight. Cowboy sing-along and marshmallow roasting at Bear Mountain. For tickets contact Roaring Camp at 1-831-335-4484.


Day Out with Thomas
July 25, 26 & 27; August 1, 2, & 3

Summer Gathering of Mountain Men
August 9 & 10

Wander through wilderness encampments of trappers and traders as a 1830s summer rendezvous of wild and wooly mountain men is recreated.


Musical Saw Festival
Sunday, August 10

Listen to old time fiddlers play Blue Grass, Classical and Country music on musical saws at workshops, open mic and jam sessions. Musicians perform on washboards and spoons, harmonicas and accordians, guitars, banjos and other folk instruments from around the world.


Harvest Fair
October 11 & 12

Celebrate Halloween and witness Living History. View spinning demonstrations; visit the blacksmith and print shop. Free pumpkin for each child holding a train ticket. Crafts and fun activities for the kids. "Early Days Garden Engines" on display.


Ghost Train
October 24 & 25

This is a family and children's Halloween event! Ride the train through a redwood forest as the Legend of Sleepy Hollow is narrated. Designed for children and young-atheart, this event is a light and lively adaptation of the famous tale. For tickets and information, call 831-335-4484.
